Radiologists

Radiologists are facing increasing numbers of images per study, increasing numbers of prior studies and decreasing reimbursement. As a result, it is becoming more and more challenging to meet productivity requirements while maintaining diagnostic accuracy.

Our PACS-integrated productivity software is designed to save you time and increase your capacity by automatically aligning current and prior exams for instant comparison of multiple studies with a single click. Visit our Products section for more information.

  • Save time
  • Increase capacity and quality
  • Instantly compare multiple studies and modalities
  • Easily communicate change between exams to patients and colleagues
  • Enhances the familiar navigation tools in your PACS

Less time navigating, more time for quality

Our products provide an average time-saving of 10%-20% or better every time you compare studies, leaving you more time for interpretation and activities that improve the quality of patient care, such as protocolling, consultation with physicians and technologists, communicating with patients, and preparing for and participating in multidisciplinary team meetings.

Blackford Analysis products can help you add value to your reports for referring clinicians by helping you create key images in PACS that demonstrate a change in serial imaging studies and correlate findings from one imaging modality with other modalities.

In addition, Blackford Analysis products are deeply integrated into your PACS, meaning you don’t have to learn how to use new features, workflows or a plethora of new buttons. They simply enhance the existing, familiar navigation capabilities in your PACS viewer user interface, to automatically minimize effort when comparing serial or complementary studies.

Case study: Lung nodule follow-up

Lung nodules, a common finding in chest CT exams, are routinely followed by serial chest CT where the radiologist must assess individual nodules for malignant change. Manually matching nodule location across exams is burdensome due to differences in pulmonary anatomy caused by variance in patient positioning and breath hold.

PACS equipped with Blackford Analysis software significantly reduce lung nodule location matching time when compared with conventional manual slice synchronization. Preliminary research shows that automatic deformable alignment can reduce location matching time by more than 50% compared to manual slice synchronization.

Case study: Surveillance for endovascular aneurysm repair

Patients with endovascular repair of aneurysms are routinely followed-up with annual multiphasic CTA to assess change in aneurysm sac size and morphology, and detect and characterize endoleak, graft migration, fractures and kinking. A small increase in sac size indicates endoleak, but reproducing surveillance measurements at the same locations can be challenging, particularly when vascular anatomy is tortuous or the aneurysm sac is irregular in shape or size.

Blackford Analysis software integrated into PACS can provide automatic simultaneous side-by-side, like-for-like presentation of MPRs across exams and contrast phases. Compared MPRs are displayed with matching planes, displayed field of view and thickness, allowing reproducible measurements, rapid appreciation of change in aneurysm size and morphology, and determination of graft migration using the same anatomical landmarks.
