Here’s the latest instalment of our news updates from Blackford Platform Partners. As you can imagine, the COVID-19 pandemic features significantly in many of the updates.

In a recent open letter, the CEO of medical 3D printing specialist axial3D revealed the company is evaluating and prototyping various 3D printed devices, parts, and equipment that would help in tackling the COVID-19 outbreak. The firm announced this week that it has begun producing face shields that can be used by frontline workers, the first batches of which have already been dispatched. Fresh on heels of announcing $11M in Series C funding to support the growth of its LungPrint solution, our lung imaging analysis partner VIDA revealed it is working to assist in the fight against COVID-19. The company is actively working with researchers, clinicians, and therapy providers on several COVID-19 programs. The people at icometrix have also been working hard on COVID-19 solutions, announcing icovid - an algorithm for the quantification of lung damage in COVID-19 patients. The company also launched its free  icompanion app earlier than planned with the aim to help with the remote monitoring of patients with Multiple Sclerosis during periods of social distancing. And finally, innovative medical diagnostic provider MaxQ AI highlighted an interview with a neurologist at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles, who shares insight into how AI-powered diagnostic solutions can support the detection of intracranial hemorrhage.
