September saw us welcome the latest addition to the Blackford Platform family – Avicenna.AI. The company’s first product, CINA Head, is an FDA-approved triage AI solution for neurovascular emergencies. Avicenna was also featured extensively in an article in the latest edition of Radiology Today.

Musculoskeletal AI solutions developer Image Biopsy Lab was delighted to have a customer success story for its KOALA product publicized in an interview with leading orthopaedic surgeon Dr Alan Reznik. (Starts at 38:37)

Lung analysis firm VIDA appointed AI industry veteran Tom Shearer as the company’s VP of sales, and shared this great Q&A with him. The company also received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for enhancements to its LungPrint solution, including ML-based lung and lobe segmentation.

Medical 3D printing specialist axial3D published some interesting case studies in September, including this one providing “world-first” insight by 3D printing the lungs of a COVID-19 patient. Another new case study of note involved helping a cardiac surgeon to visualize her own ASD with a 3D printed model. And congratulations to the Belfast company on being named as the Best Established Small/Medium Business at the Belfast Telegraph Business Awards!

Imaging AI specialist icometrix had another busy month, partnering up again with the Deutsche Röntgengesellschaft to present a session on AI Solutions in Clinical Radiology as part of the live Neuroradiology Education session at the online congress. The company was selected by AuntMinnie as a semi-finalist in the Best New Radiology Software category for the Minnies2020 awards.

icometrix also published a collaborative paper on the association between MRI brain volumes and computerized cognitive scores of people with multiple sclerosis, and posted this new blog on the health economic value of brain atrophy and lesion monitoring in MS management. In fact, all the company’s scientific papers and posters have now been made available the Resources page on its web site.

Medical diagnostic provider MaxQ AI published a new webinar, with the company’s VP of Research & Clinical Collaborations Steve Kohlmyer and Dr. Ajay Choudhri discussing how AI is bringing new options to care providers to support timely reading and decision making without disrupting clinical workflow.

Visualization and analytical solutions developer Imaging Biometrics revealed that IB Neuro’s dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) perfusion approach was recently featured in Neuro Oncology as the national recommended standard, as determined by the DSC-MRI Standardization Subcommittee of the Jumpstarting Brain Tumor Drug Development Coalition. The company also told us that its software has recently been installed at the Keck Medical Center at USC, and that several veterinary groups are now also using IB software to help treat our furry friends!

Finally, neurodegenerative disease assessment specialist CorTechs Labs announced the first instalment of the company’s new quantitative imaging video series. In it, several patient cases are reviewed using NeuroQuant software for automated quantitative analysis of brain MR images.
